On 11 December, 1998 the FOCUS was established under the umbrella of Barisal Development Society (BDS)- a  lead  NGO  servicing in the southern parts  of  Bangladesh.  On  June  14, 2000 Foundation of Credit  Union  Services  ( FOCUS )   was  officially   established   as an  autonomous  non-Government organization basically  to  serve  Credit  Unions  as network building organization in this region.

FOCUS is a non-government, non-political, non-sectarian voluntary organization with a view to promoting socio-economic condition of the rural poverty stricken people living in the most typical backward areas. It's mission is to mobilizing local resources through awareness building, consciousness raising, economic support for increasing & purchasing capacity in the family as well as in the society among the operational areas.

Besides, FOCUS aspires for a society free from exploitation, oppression and starvation, where every individual in the society will get the rightful share of the resources and will reside in the society in peace and harmony with full human honour and dignity.

The ultimate purpose for formation of FOCUS is to building up strong networking, need-based technical support to its member Credit Unions in this southern region. The overall objectives are to strengthen and support for development of the member Credit Unions with a better educational & financial services.
